I previously worked in the outdoor industry long enough to know this is where the money is. We are, however, not an MVA-registered association, so selling goods is not something we’re going to be involved in.
For the most part, this just saves me for an extra paperwork-migraine every tax-season, but the downside of this presented itself over the holidays. For Christmas, I got this dope beanie, handmade by my sister:
Exhibit A: Said dope beanie
She, as all good gift-givers do, listened! One day, I was going on a sleep-deprived rant about how cool it would be to have my logo on all kinds of high-quality, functional equipment that you’d actually use on your expeditions (ergo not just cotton t-shirts). So, she logged that into her mental database and, months later, produced a highly functional wool beanie that’ll keep my ears toasty when doing cold-weather scenarios in our future winter wilderness medicine courses.
The bummer of not being MVA-associated is that we can’t just have a little side-gig selling stuff like this during our courses as a supplement to cover course-costs.
OK, so what’s the solution? Well, here’s my proposal. If you think this is at least half as sick as we do, then first, let us know! Then, before your next course, order some functional gear and get it shipped to our location. Then, in our free-time we’ll attach the logo and we’ll just politely ask for a donation to the non-profit. That should work, right?
Note: if you want solid handmade stuff from my sister, then we can arrange that, too.
